Bemerkung: Correspondence on ongoing work, Eccles' "conversion" and details of experiments.26.10.1954 (reply to Dale 25.08.1954) Eccles is relieved that his recent work on the "direct" inhibitory pathway in the spinal cord provided evidence of relays in the pathway, which dispense with the uneasy hypothesis that only one transmitter (Acetylcholine) could have two opposite effects (inhibition and excitation) on the same nerve cells.
