Bemerkung: Michelangelo Fuortes was an Italian neurophysiologist. He worked in Turin and Cambridge, before moving to the USA in the 1950s. At the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, he worked with Karl Frank on presynaptic inhibition, a work resulting in a pioneering 1957 article. The correspondence is mostly about Eccles' reprints. 9.3.47 Fuortes sends Eccles a copy of his book on the chemical hypothesis of nervous transmission. Other two letters of the same period suggest that Fuortes is growing more and more interested in Eccles' electrical hypothesis of conduction.
