Born 1916 in Saint-Cyr l'École ... moves to Tokyo in 1950 for the creation of the "Institut franco-japonais" ... ultural consultant at the French embassy in New Delhi (1958-1960), Beyrouth (1960-165) and London (1965-1967); returns to France in 1967 where he becomes assistant to Pierre Grappin in Nanterre; becomes director of the Maison française at the University of Oxford in 1971 where he dies on Dec. 4, 1973
