Nach der deutschen Einigung (1991) wurden die Deutsche Bibliothek Frankfurt (mit der "Abteilung" Deutsches Musikarchiv Berlin) und die Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig in einer Dachorganisation als neue Bundesanstalt "Die Deutsche Bibliothek Frankfurt, Main/Leipzig" zusammengefasst, daneben existierte jede der drei Körperschaften mit den traditionellen Namensformen auch noch als selbständige Organisation weiter (bis 28.06.2006)
